Pleasant Ridge Cemetery: Palo Iowa (Lin County)
Pleasant Ridge : AKA= "13 Stairs Cemetery Or The Lewis Bottoms Cemetery"
Pleasant Ridge Cemetery is more commonly
known by the locals as 13 stairs, because of the 13 stairs leading up a hill into the cemetery. It has also been called Lewis
Bottoms Cemetery because many of the graves in the cemetery are of the Lewis family.
I was out there just yesterday afternoon. Bellow
you will find some pictures of the grave yard. Some interesting news is. If you wish to visit this cemetery be prepared for
some exercise. It has been many years since I have been here. Imagine my surprise when I pulled onto the road to the cemetery
only to find out that it has been gated off a Quarter of a mile from the cemetery. A walk through gate placed here but no
where to park. You must drive a little road to a parking area. then you can either walk up a steep hill in knee high grass
to the cemetery or walk back around to were the road is gated off and walk the road up to the cemetery. "Good thing no elderly
people ever visit this cemetery!!!" I do understand wanting to keep vandals out, but when you start keep people out from visiting
graves you may have gone to far!!
This is the legend of Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Visitors
to the cemetery report seeing a phantom dog. Voices have been recorded on tape(EVP) that were not heard while there. Also,
people have been touched by unseen things. Visitors have seen things human like shapes appear and disappear. There are also
reports of strange colored lights through out the cemetery. Some have reported seeing a phantom house that appears and disappears.
There is another story floating around on the web
about Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. This is realed by a youngman who reports that he and two of his freinds went to the cemetery
one night. After spending some uneventfull time in the cemetery they wlaked back to their car, At witch time two other cars
came and those kids went up in to the cemetery. Before this guy and his freinds could leave. A DNR truck pulled up and asked
them what they were doing out there after hours. While the DNR Oficer was tlaking to them his truck sliped into gear and started
to pull away. The Oficer ran and put the truck back in park and sent them on their way.
I can not coment on this as I was not
there. But it is not likley an automatic transmition could slip three gears down into drive by its self? So maybe one of the
spirits of Pleasant Ridge Cemetery was having a little fun with the DNR Oficer. Must be boring to wander a cemetery all the
time. I geuss maybe they have to have some fun somtimes to!!
